Focus on INASOUND festival

On the 20th and 21st of April, INA launched the INASOUND festival, a musical and digital experience dedicated to electronic cultures, at the Palais Brongniart, in the heart of Paris. The event is part of INA’s historical relations with electronic music with its Groupe de Recherches Musicales (INA-GRM), and mobilizes all its expertise for cultural and digital innovation.

A programme gathering all electro communities

INASOUND has been organized under the aegis of the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (INA-GRM), and Jean-Michel Jarre, French Ambassador of electronic music and Honorary President of the festival. Within the Palais Brongniart walls, all electro communities were gathered. More than 60 artists have been welcomed on 5 stages, for live performance, DJ Sets: Arnaud Rebotini, Erol Alkan, NSDOS, Molécule, or Plaid.

The diversity of electronic culture represented

During two days and two nights, the Palais Brongniart, was the setting of many events to highlight all areas of the electronic culture. Music, digital arts, audiovisual productions, dance, fashion, gaming, food, photography, sport… all the disciplines inspired by the electro culture were invited

Conferences and master classes, including Jean-Michel Jarre’s, proposed a look to electronic culture history and news. Young creators have been highlighted with a 48h-hackhaton, during which 6 teams faced to set images archives from INA’s collections to music. Children had the opportunity to be introduced to music creation during dedicated workshops. Music was also presented as an experience thanks to the INA-GRM Acousmonium, a device spatializing the sound, or VR means. In the Electro Market, electronic music professionals – start-up, businesses, creators – proposed their productions and tools for music creation, as the GRM Tools designed by INA.

INA’s know-how and culture of innovation

INASOUND highlighted INA’s history and diverse activities dedicated to audiovisual creation and innovation, and transmission.

INASOUND is the result of INA’s historical relations with music innovation. Since its creation in 1975, the Institute has been entrusted to develop the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM)’s activities and experiments. The GRM, a pioneer in electroacoustic music and a laboratory for sound experimentation, was at the heart of the event.

INASOUND also gathered all forms of creation developed by INA. The Festival proposed sound, audiovisual and digital creations: audiovisual contents based on INA’s archives, VR means, digital arts, or the invitation of young creators.

All INA’s expertise was required to organize the Festival: from the Institute’s know-how from its history and experience, the results of its research and innovation activities, to its technical engineering needed to create the best acoustic environment.
